A Colorful Life

The first curated catalog of antiques and vintage pieces from eastern goods best represents the fruits of Lucia's colorful life full of travel, design and enterprise.

When you are young, people share the adventures of their life often times on deaf ears. Typically it takes a life lived to appreciate the years hard earned by others. Lucia Lawrence was introduced to me at a pivotal time in my own life. With a husband, two small boys and an entrepreneur's heart, I began to wonder how does one "have it all?"

A woman ahead of her time, Lucia's life was not distinguished by home and office, work and play.  She married her natural business savvy and love of the East and interior design.  A career that began as an interior designer naturally absorbed travel as a means to feed her need for inspiration and supply her projects with unique pieces. Importer was soon added to her resume and she was sought by showrooms throughout the United States to accessorize the furniture and textiles lines they represented. Most of those relationships established decades ago remain successful today.

Lucia was affectionately known as “Miss L” to those close to her.  I have mentioned Lucia to many and am surprised at how many people knew her fondly especially because she began her life in Seattle in her mid-70s.

With three daughters, she often traveled with at least one. Her oldest, Marcia, benefitted from these adventures and exposure to beautiful things.  Ultimately, Marcia was passed the torch of day-to-day managerial and creative responsibilities of the business her mother began.  Under her leadership, Lawrence & Scott (more on the Scott in future posts), expanded into a limited production manufacturer of exquisite lighting and home accessories. As a result, the Chinese antiques, vintage porcelains as well as antique furniture and accessories from throughout Asia including Japan, India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia have remained in a warehouse in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.  With limited availability to the public since they arrived in five tractor trailers in 1988 from Los Angeles, Marcia and I are thrilled to share these treasures through eastern goods.
